Wissenschaftlicher Beirat

 Der wissenschaftliche Beirat des Projekts "Kommentierung der Fragments der griechischen Komödie" (KomFrag) ist mit fünf international angesehenen Gelehrten besetzt: Glenn W. Most, Heinz-Günther Nesselrath, S. Douglas Olson und Antonios Rengakos. 

Der Beirat überprüft kritisch die für die Publikation in der Reihe Fragmenta Comica (FrC)  eingereichten Kommentare und übermittelt über den Forschungsstellenleiter sein Urteil zur wissenschaftlichen Qualität der vorgelegten Bände an die wissenschaftliche Kommission der Akademie, die über die Drucklegung entscheidet.

Der wissenschaftliche Beirat bildet zusammen mit dem Leiter des Forschungsprojekts, Bernhard Zimmermann, das Herausgebergremium der Reihe Fragmenta comica.

 

Glenn W. Most has taught at the Universities of Yale, Princeton, Michigan, Siena, Innsbruck, and Heidelberg. Since 2001 he has been Professor of Greek Philology at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, since 1996 he has been a visiting Professor on the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago; recently he has also become an external scientific member of the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin.

He has published numerous books and articles on ancient and modern literature and philosophy, the history and methodology of Classical studies, comparative literature, cultural studies, the history of religion, literary theory, and the history of art. Most recently he has edited a two-volume edition of Hesiod in the Loeb Classical Library (Cambridge, MA 2006-7]) and co-edited a one-volume companion to the Classical tradition (The Classical Tradition, ed. with Anthony T. Grafton and Salvatore Settis [Cambridge, MA 2010]), and he is currently preparing a co-edited four-volume Loeb edition of the Presocratics, co-revising an English translation of all the Greek tragedies, and co-editing and -translating the ancient and medieval commentaries to Hesiod’s Theogony.

 

Heinz-Günther Nesselrath (geboren 1957) studierte Klassische Philologie und Alte Geschichte an der Universität zu Köln. Er wurde 1981 mit der Dissertation „Lukians Parasitendialog. Untersuchungen und Kommentar“ promoviert und habilitierte sich 1987 mit der Schrift „Die Attische Mittlere Komödie. Ihre Stellung in der antiken Literaturkritik und Literaturgeschichte“. Von 1989 bis 1992 forschte er als Heisenberg-Stipendiat der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft. 1992-1997 war er als vollamtlicher außerordentlicher Professor für Klassische Philologie an der Universität Bern und 1997-2001 als ordentlicher Professor für Klassische Philologie an der Universität Bern tätig. 2001 wurde er als Universitätsprofessor für Klassische Philologie an die Georg-August-Universität Göttingen berufen, wo er bis heute lehrt und forscht. Seit April 2002 ist er Mitglied der Göttinger Akademie der Wissenschaften.

Aus seiner Feder liegen zahlreiche Buchpublikationen vor zu Platon, dem griechisch-römischen Epos, zur spätantiken Literatur und zur Methodologie der Faches; außerdem zahlreich Aufsätze zu Homer, griechischer Mythos, Solon, Herodot, Aristophanes, griechische Komödie, Atlantis, Xenophon, Pseudo-Kebes, Livius, Valerius Flaccus, Silius Italicus, Dion von Prusa, Plutarch, Favorinus, Lukian, Tatian, Julian Apostata, Libanios, Claudian, Sokrates von Konstantinopel, Erasmus von Rotterdam bis hin zu Friedrich Dürrenmatt.

 

S. Douglas Olson (PhD Bryn Mawr College 1987) is Distinguished McKnight University Professor in the Department of Classical and Near Eastern Studies at the University of Minnesota and (for the 2011–12 academic year) a Humboldtpreisträger at the University of Freiburg. His primary interest is in Greek poetry, and especially Greek Comedy and its reception in the Roman Imperial period.

He is the author or co-author of 17 books, including the standard editions of Aristophanes' Acharnians, Peace, and (with Colin Austin) Thesmophoriazusae; an 8-volume Loeb Classical Library edition of Athenaeus of Naucratis; and (with Benjamin Millis) a new edition of the fragmentary inscriptional records of the Athenian dramatic festivals (IG II2 2318-2325 and related texts). He is currently at work (with Zachary Biles) on a new edition of Aristophanes' Wasps.

 

Antonios Rengakos (geb. 23.1.1957) studierte Klassische Philologie, Archäologie und Alte Geschichte an der Universität Freiburg, wo er als Schüler von Wolfgang Kullmann 1982 zum Dr. phil. promoviert wurde. Seit seiner Habilitation (1991) lehrte er als Privatdozent an der Universität Freiburg. Im Jahr 1994/1995 war er Gastprofessor an der Universität Wien. 1997 nahm er einen Ruf an die Aristoteles-Universität Thessaloniki an, wo er seither als Professor der Gräzistik in Lehre und Forschung aktiv ist. Seit 2011 ist er ordentliches Mitglied der Athener Akademie. 

Rengakos’ Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Epos, hellenistische Dichtung und Geschichtsschreibung. Er verfasste zahlreiche Aufsätze und Monografien zum Geschichtswerk des Thukydides, zur hellenistischen Dichtung und zu den homerischen Epen.

Alan Sommerstein is Professor of Greek at the University of Nottingham, where he has taught since 1974; previously he had been a research fellow at King's College, Cambridge, where he had taken both his first degree (1968) and his PhD (1971).

He has produced editions of all the comedies of Aristophanes (Warminster/Oxford, 1980-2002), of the plays and fragments of Aeschylus (Cambridge MA [Loeb], 2008), and (with collaborators) of thirteen fragmentary plays of Sophocles (Oxford, 2006-12); he is also the author of Aeschylean Tragedy (Bari, 1996; 2nd ed. London, 2010), of Greek Drama and Dramatists (London, 2002), and of two volumes of collected essays, Talking about Laughter (Oxford, 2009) and The Tangled Ways of Zeus (Oxford, 2010). He was editor of the Journal of Hellenic Studies from 1989 to 1995.

He is currently working on an edition with commentary of Menander's Samia (Cambridge, forthcoming) and (with five collaborators) on a two-volume study of the oath in archaic and classical Greece (Berlin, forthcoming) founded on the materials collected by his team in a database on the subject.
